The Bohemian Olive played an important role in the lives of Turkish farmers in the 1700s, as sheep and goats grazed on its foliage. The tree's fruit is widely used in cooking and pharmacy. In addition to its culinary and pharmaceutical uses, its wood is also used in the construction of musical instruments and underwater framing for bridges. Because of its abundance, West Asian growers used the Bohemian olive for many purposes. Adding to its versatility, its silvery appearance and honeyed scent earned it the nickname "the tree of paradise".

The Bohemian Olive is native to Eastern Europe and Western Asia, and arrived in North America in the 1800s as an ornamental tree. It reaches a height of 8 meters at maturity and grows mainly in talles. Its creamy-white foliage makes it stand out in the landscape. It is often found in fields and along watercourses, where its berries provide rich food for birds and small mammals. Its bark is grayish and finely frayed when mature. Its fragrant yellow flowers accompany the heat of June.
