Becoming a tree after death

Honor life in the forest

As the largest eco-cemetery in Quebec with a protective servitude in perpetuity, the Forêt de la seconde vie allows families to honor their deceased by planting a tree on their plot as part of our reforestation initiative.

A human approach to funerals

A few testimonials

"By creating forests in this way, we transform funeral practices into a powerful legacy for future generations. We're actually giving mourning an ecological meaning."

"It soothes me to have such a quiet, gentle place for my daughter, a place where I can watch her grow through her tree. Our family felt right at home, such a powerful human experience.️"

"It's a beautiful place, more positive and warm compared to what you find in cemeteries. So it's more pleasant to come back and see the person who has left us."

Our site is protected by a forest protection easement, so all rooted trees are protected in perpetuity.

The real servitude gives legal life to the nature present on the site and to that to come (rooting), and thus simultaneously protects the ecological heritage (trees and natural environments) and the cultural heritage (burials).

Annual monitoring will enable us to periodically verify the integrity of nature on the site, and ensure the sustainability of the heritage to be bequeathed to future generations.

Please note that section 71 of Quebec's Funeral Activities Act states that "no one may scatter human ashes in a place where they could constitute a nuisance or in a manner that does not respect the dignity of the deceased."

We hold all the ministerial authorizations required to comply with this law.
