Norway spruce

This tree represents kindness and family.

In Greek mythology, the Norway spruce was considered the tree of birth, probably because its drooping branches entwine to create a peaceful, safe place for wildlife. As they make their way through, they are protected by the needles and find a haven in which to give birth. It's in a community that this tree really flourishes, living in close contact with many different organisms.

This tree can reach 40 meters in height and 1.30 meters in diameter at the base. Originally from Northern Europe, it has adapted very well to its adopted homeland. This tree is fast-growing, with a broad crown and good adaptability, but it roots superficially in its environment. Its casual, conical habit gives it a sober, graceful appearance. Its trunk is slightly purplish, turning orange as it ages. At maturity, the upper part of the trunk is adorned with large cones. In its natural range, this spruce can reach 500 years of age.
