Basswood

This tree represents honesty and loyalty.

With the sweet, delicate aroma of its flowers and its heart-shaped leaves, the lime tree has long been associated in many countries with truth and love. It was not uncommon to find large lime trees in the center of villages. Some of them even exceeded the venerable age of 1,000 years! These were used for social gatherings and weddings, as well as for creating laws and handing down judicial verdicts.

Native to Eastern Canada and the United States, the American linden is easily recognized in spring thanks to its magnificent, highly aromatic flowers, sometimes white, sometimes yellowish or even pinkish. Its flowers are very important for the pollinators that wake up in spring. Lime is a fast-growing species, which is why its wood is still one of the most widely used for sculpture. In the forest, it's not uncommon to come across groves of lime trees made up of one or more mature specimens surrounded by smaller stems. When mature, the lime tree's branches are irregular, zigzagging and remarkable.
