Balsam fir

This tree represents positivism.

Firs, like cedars, are distinguished from other conifers by their cylindrical, upright cones, which rise from the branches like candles. For the first nomadic peoples of North-East America, the Balsam Fir was of vital importance. In fact, its needles and resin were used as a remedy for ailments such as colds, flu, pneumonia and many other respiratory infections. Its branches were also used to make mattresses and pillows. The fir's scientific name is Abies, a Latin word meaning "one who rises". It's no doubt for this reason that fir trees represented the promise of a positive period of forward movement.

Native to Eastern Canada and the United States, the Balsam Fir is a conifer that can grow to 23 meters. Its smooth trunk is covered with vesicles filled with antibacterial resin. This resin was widely used by aboriginal peoples for its medicinal properties.

This tree represents altruism and positivism.
