Ginkgo biloba

This tree is synonymous with hope and imperturbability.

The bilobed ginkgo is literally a living fossil! It appeared on earth at the time of the dinosaurs. It didn't just live alongside them, it survived the mass extinction that wiped them out. It has remarkable immunity to insects and disease, and is extremely tolerant of pollution. In China and Japan, this tree is sacred, which is why it is planted in shrines and nicknamed the "Tree of Heaven".

The history of the ginkgo family dates back over 200 million years. It is native to the mountains of China. Its fan-shaped leaves make it easy to identify. Contrary to popular belief, Ginkgo belongs to the same botanical group as conifers. However, it is a primitive conifer that produces male cones and free female ovules on the stems. What's more, its leaves are actually needles that have fused together over the course of evolution. It can reach heights of up to 40 meters, with a diameter of around 80 cm.

This tree is synonymous with hope and imperturbability.
