Oval hickory

This tree represents mutual aid and balance.

Hickory is often seen as an ally carrying the message to let things go. Sometimes we feel like we're carrying the weight of the world, when in fact it's just us holding back. The Oval Hickory is a symbol of balance and new beginnings. We find it in Greek mythology as a symbol of forgiveness and resilience. Carya is also the Greek word for "nut". Indeed, this tree is a major producer of nuts, which were an important source of food for First Nations peoples.

The Oval Hickory is easily distinguished at maturity, as it has large strips of bark that taper down its trunk. It produces an extremely hard wood used for power tools and furniture. It can reach heights approaching 25 meters, and attracts a large number of birds and small mammals that enjoy its hospitality.

This tree represents mutual aid and balance.
